Divinity Lutheran in Parma Heights, Ohio, is a place and people, where you can nurture your relationship with God and your siblings in Christ. Established in 1948, we have grown into a community of faith dedicated to caring for its members for the various life circumstances, while also reaching out to the surrounding neighborhood and beyond with an authentic embodiment of Christ’s compassion to the world.

I still remember our preaching class in seminary, including the day when we were to dive into the expectations for us preachers with funerals. And one of my classmates was one of those students who didn’t always participate in class, but when he did, it was going to stick more than just in that particular moment in the room. The discussion was ensuing about the relatively recent trend of shifting the name: from funerals or memorial services to celebrations of life. And he brought up how he recently attended such a named gathering after someone who was near and dear to him died rather unexpectedly, but it wasn’t just the bulletin heading of it all, or the welcome extended by the pastor to the assembly; it was all shaped to be a celebration: a complete focus on the individual being in the heavenly realm and that all was well and good now. And I still remember my classmate saying, “Just let me be sad. Don’t tell me to be happy now. This sucks. Let me be sad.” A remarkable take for someone on their way to proclaim a Resurrection Gospel to children of God in a variety of not-always-the-happiest circumstances. But sometimes that reality check serves as a helpful reminder to the church, including for such weekends as this....

With the first congregation I served with out of seminary, there was Alice. Alice was one of those church individuals who must have been under the impression that God was nudging her to keep tabs on her second family of sorts, her siblings in Christ, as they walked in the main entrance doors into the narthex area. She would sit on that pew in that socially delicate area with those who just wanted to get to their seats in the sanctuary, as well as those who wanted to verbally process all the life events from the week before. And although Alice had her quirks and her fair share of gruffness, to be sure, she cherished each one who came into those entrance doors just the same. The Twiggs-Havel Library is open on Sunday mornings and Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to Noon. Come in, browse and pick out a book!

Come and visit the Twiggs-Havel Library of Divinity Lutheran Church where we have books for every reader and age. Located across from Pastor Doug's office, our collection features thousands of Christian books - biographies, devotionals, Bibles, and many titles of fiction and nonfiction as well as a children's section.

Our library is funded solely by the donations of members and friends devoted to Christian reading. If you would like to support our library financially, please make your check payable to Divinity Lutheran Church and designate in the memo section that your donation is for the Twiggs-Havel Library. The donation may be placed in the offering plate or dropped off in the church office. We also accept gently used or new Christian books.
