Lay Visitation

Busch Funeral and Crematory Services would like to congratulate our March Caregiver of the Month!  The Staff Caregiver Award goes to Loretta Cross, who has served as Divinity Lutheran’s “Visitation Minister” for the past 15 years.  (Congrats, Loretta!)  Thank you for your dedication and hard work!

An individual with a solid Lutheran background, a strong prayer life along with being an active member of Divinity Lutheran Church holds this position.

Its primary responsibility is contact with Divinity's homebound members through regular communion, telephone and the greeting card ministry.

Lay Visitation Responsibilities:
  • Visit homebound (about 50) in homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities; Hospital visits are on an as needed basis.
  • Plan 3 luncheons parties annually: Maundy Thursday, a July picnic, and a Christmas party.
    • Do themes and activities such as singing, games, prizes, and planned entertainment.
  • Keep a supply of greeting cards on hand for volunteers to send out.
  • Funeral prayers . . . graveside, funeral homes, and church
  • Write a monthly Pray-er Thoughts article for the Digest
  • Attend seminars and workshops
  • Member of the Board of Witness
  • Create packets for the new member classes providing pertinent information.
    • Address on of the three new member classes.
    • Participate in the new member luncheon reception.
Stephen Ministry Coordinator:
  • Establish training, retreat and Peer Supervision schedule
  • Interview prospective ministers
  • Plan advertisements
  • Arrange commissioning service/reception
  • Create invitation/information packets
  • Order supplies and training materials
  • Create commissioning packets
  • Establish caring relationships
Prayer Ministry
  • Distribute prayer requests by phone, email, or U.S. Mail
  • Create commissioning service and reception
  • Schedule follow-up calls
  • Call prayer vigils as needed
  • Prayer hotline
  • Prayer shawls
Via de Cristo Coordinator:
  • Coordinate Ultreya gatherings, reunion groups, mailings, and sponsorships
