Twiggs - Havel Library
In the early 1970s, Divinity's Church Library was nothing more than a bunch of books in cardboard boxes. These books traveled between the Women of the Church Bible Study Circles and frequently got lost. Fran Day and Henrietta Twiggs soon realized these books needed to be classified and organized.
Mrs. Twiggs and her daughter, Ruth Havel, began to visit local church libraries for ideas and advice on how to start a church library. Motivated by their love of books, they spent countless hours researching, cataloguing and literally building the library we are so privileged to have today.
After recruiting a core of volunteers, the Friends of the Library Committee opened the new facility in January of 1975. Over the years, the library has grown to include an extensive child and young adult collection as well as audio, compact disk and videotapes, a reference section and services such as a Children's Story Hour and Summer Reading Club. This library is considered one of the best of its kind in Greater Cleveland.
