Lutheran Outdoor Ministries

In addition to summer camp, LOMO offers many opportunities including a variety of retreats for youth, adults, church professionals, and families. LOMO also offers special events like the Maple Syrup Festival, Mother’s Day Brunch, Run through the Pines 5K Run and Walk, Fall fes-tivals, holiday events, and environmental education. We serve people of all ages in all seasons.

Proclaiming the gospel of our risen Lord Jesus Christ, LOMO is continually explor-ing new mission opportuni-ties. The consecration of CreekSide EcoEternity Forest at Lutheran Memorial Camp is one of these new ministries that took shape during 2011.

In November, a portion of LMC was set aside for this new ministry. In an EcoEternity Forest, the ashes of the deceased are laid to rest at the roots of trees. Over time, the tree will absorb the nutrients of the ashes, converting the tree into a living memorial. This end-of-life ministry is a way for our camps to continue our mission through all stages of a person’s life. Lakeside EcoEternity Forest will be consecrated at Camp Luther this summer.

The LOMO Board of Directors leads the organization with a visionary strategic plan. Board task forces continue to explore entering into land conservancy, partnering with corporations, and developing a corn maze in the fall of 2012 at LMC.

LOMO has strived to become an increasing presence in the three ELCA synods in Ohio. The staff is committed to this as we work in partnership with congregations so people of all ages may grow in their Christian faith and wit-ness. A new marketing plan, Fall in Love with Camp, was implemented in 2011. A reenergized Camp Connectors Program has been put in place where volunteers help es-tablish a personal connection between LOMO and a congregation.

During 2012, LOMO is working to revise our environmental education programming; engage in a long range facility plan; continue to make efforts to reach out to multicul-tural; and explore mutually beneficial relationships with ecumenical partners. The staff and board of LOMO continue to work with courage and hope as we face the many challenges that our world presents while carrying out this life giving and life changing ministry.
